The Lamar track and field teams continued their streak of district championships at Barnett Stadium, pulling away for the girls and boys team titles.
The Lady Texans scored 278 points to finish 133 ahead of Bellaire, winning 12 individual gold medals including every event on the track. The Texans scored 182 points to hold off Westbury’s 140, winning all three relays.
Lamar’s Milan Young and Julia Heymach pulled off the remarkable feat of three district championships. Young paced the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, while Heymach cruised to gold in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. Westbury’s Yoel Yoel was the only other individual multiple-event winner, taking the 800 and 1,600.
Lamar’s female district champions included Sydney Dillard (200), Sydney Allen (400), Alina Mooradian (high jump), Julia Irr (pole vault), Kaylin Guillory (long jump) and Mia Moffett (discus). The Lady Texans medaled in all three relays.
Lamar’s quartet of Ta’Zhawn Henry, Al’Vonte Woodard, D’Shawn Jamison and Zane Knipe won twice, pacing the sprint and 800 races. Matthew Parker, Jamison, Denzel Davis and Tre’Von Lewis stepped in for the mile relay victory. Parker (400) and Woodard (100) won gold medals individually, while Matthew Smith was the pole vault champion.
Westside took home two relay championships, with combinations of Vanecia Foley, Jattasialyn Caldwell, Fotenote London, Aniya McMurry and Jourde Robinson striking gold in the 400 and 800. The school also swept the triple jump, with Camara Green and Khristan Hurks winning. Mattiece Jones provided first-place points for the Wolves in the discus.
Bellaire’s Jordan Brown, Samantha Sarlin, Jia Foster and Makenli Raspberry closed the meet with a mile relay victory. Foster added a gold medal in the shot put. The Cardinals were led by district champions Jamarcus Washington (110 hurdles) and Ababu Mohamed (3,200).
Heights’ E’Munn Parker (200) and Curtis Melrose (long jump), Westbury’s Myles Stennis (300 hurdles) and Aaric Lyles (high jump) and Chavez’s Dominic Franklin (shot put) were among those taking district titles to the area meet.
